National Heroes Day is a day of great significance for any nation. It is a day that is dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of their country.

In accordance with Act No. 3827, the last Sunday in August is designated as a day to honor our heroes, and this led to the first statewide commemoration in 1931. As per the legislation of Republic Act No. 9492 signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the date of the holiday was revised in 2007 to be observed on the last Monday of August.

In 1995, a year prior to the centennial of the Philippine Revolution during the presidency of Fidel V. Ramos, the government recognized nine distinguished Filipinos as part of the pantheon of the Philippine independence movement. These heroes include Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo Del Pilar, Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat, Juan Luna, Melchora Aquino, and Gabriela Silang. However, there are numerous other heroes worthy of recognition for their invaluable role in shaping our nation’s history. These include overseas Filipino workers, teachers, health workers, and other notable figures who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and selflessness in their respective fields.
