In the Philippine entertainment industry, Michael V has positioned himself as a prominent figure by virtue of his manifest talents that have propelled his career since his debut as a rapper in 1991. Nevertheless, social media influencer and entrepreneur Rendon Labador suggests that individuals like himself have gained greater popularity among the general public.

To understand how the public felt about the two individuals named in this context, a study on their online popularity was conducted. The study was carried out by Capstone-Intel Corporation within a month from April 22 to May 22, 2023.

Capstone-Intel is a high impact research company which uses innovative research technologies, tools and methods to convert data and information to breakthrough insights and actionable intelligence outputs. It is committed to help its clients solve problems, find solutions, grow markets and constituencies, build reputation, navigate risks, and manage crisis; and to be the country’s leading private research and intelligence agency.

The “popularity rage” started when Michael V posted on Instagram on April 29, 2023 what seemed to be an insult to content creators online. The post reads: “The first thing any ‘content creator’ should understand is the meaning of the word: “content.”

This statement provoked a prompt response from Labador, who stated, “’Influencers’ are the new celebrities! Kung hindi ninyo kayang makipag patalinuhan sa mga influencers sa pag produce ng content. Manahimik nalang kayo. Mainstream is dead! Social media is the new mainstream.”

In accordance with the tools and techniques employed by Capstone-Intel, the study also demonstrated how the two are growing in popularity on Facebook.

The social networking site Facebook has become ever-present in modern times, serving as the primary mode of communication and interaction for a significant proportion of the global population. It is also the methodology employed to ascertain the level of popularity of Michael V and Rendon Labador.

The names Rendon Labador and Michael V were identified keywords in the data collection online. Sentiment analysis of data points was also performed using responses, channels/influencers, word clouds, and other methods.

Interestingly, the study also revealed a comparative analysis of the favorable engagement rates of the two keywords. Results showed that Michael V had a significantly higher positive engagement rate of 51.7%, while Rendon Labador had a substantially lower rate of 30.3%.
